A significant update has landed for Kickoff Tactics, and it’s a big one. Version 0.20 brings new cards, sweeping stat changes, ability reworks, and five brand new Zones to shake up the meta. Here’s everything you need to know.
π New Cards
Two new Champion Pass cards have been added to the game this patch.
Harry Maguire arrives as an 8-Cost Defender with 14 Power – one of the highest raw power values in the game. His ability reads: “If this card is in your deck on Turn 8, it will be drawn.” This makes him a guaranteed late-game presence if you can build around him, and his sheer power ceiling makes him a serious threat in the right zone.
Manuel Locatelli joins as a 4-Cost Midfielder with 3 Power. His On Appear ability creates an 8-Cost card in your hand – an interesting value-generation tool that could enable high-cost finisher strategies if you can set up the right board state.
ποΈ New Zones
Five new Zones have been introduced in v0.20, each with the potential to dramatically influence how matches play out.
Foggy Arena β At the start of turn 5, cards here disappear. A zone that punishes over-commitment. Any cards placed here vanish at the start of turn 5, making it a high-risk, high-reward battleground in the First Half.
Striker’s Nightmare (Active) β FW cards can’t be played here. A hard counter to forward-heavy strategies. This zone completely locks out FW cards, forcing players to adapt their lineup and think carefully about zone placement.
Fox in the Box β At the end of each turn, gives +2 Power to a FW card here. A zone that rewards committed FW placement. Leave a forward here long enough and they’ll snowball into a dominant force. A serious buff for Antonio Nusa!
Second Wind β Copies the first card you played to your hand. Strong value generation. Depending on the card you lead with, this could give you a crucial second copy of a key piece at exactly the right moment.
Captain’s Legacy β The first card you play here adds its Power to the top card of your deck. A deck-stacking tool that rewards careful sequencing. Play a high-Power card here early and you’re setting up a loaded draw for later.
π¬ Animations Added
The following cards have received new animations this patch: Suzuki, Alaba, Akanji, LeΓ£o, and Lee Kang In. Power Up and Power Down animations have also been improved across the board.
π― Card Updates
This is the meatiest part of the patch. Birch Games have made sweeping changes across the roster, from stat tweaks to full ability reworks.
Power & Cost Changes
Several cards have seen straightforward stat adjustments:
Federico Valverde is the biggest winner of the patch β jumping from 6 to 9 Power. His ability (On Appear: Your opponent receives -1 Energy on the next turn) was already strong; this power bump makes him a genuine top-tier card.
Heung-Min Son also surges to 9 Power (up from 7), cementing his place as one of the best value FW cards in the game for his cost.
Pedro Neto reaches 10 Power (up from 8), a strong Base Card but still trails Alexsander Isak if you have him.
Cole Palmer receives a significant boost, going from 3 to 6 Power. Combined with his On Appear ability that raises the cost of an opponent’s card, this makes him a much more enticing pick.
Hugo Ekitike climbs from 5 to 7 Power, making his discard-return ability even more dangerous.
Rayan Cherki and Leandro Trossard both gain 1 Power (5 β 6), solid buffs that push them into more competitive territory.
Juan Fernando Quintero goes from 4 to 5 Power, a minor but welcome bump.
Gustav Isaksen ticks up from 2 to 3 Power.
On the other side of the ledger, Harry Kane drops sharply from 10 to 6 Power β though this comes alongside a complete ability rework (see below). Mohamed Elneny loses 1 Power (4 β 3), also with an ability change. Gregor Kobel drops from 4 to 3 Power, and Benjamin Pavard falls from 4 to 3 Power as well.
Marcel Sabitzer is reduced in both cost and power: 4 Cost / 4 Power β 3 Cost / 3 Power. Joao Palhinha drops from 4 Cost to 3 Cost (power unchanged).
Ability Reworks
The most impactful changes this patch are the full ability overhauls.
Harry Kane is completely redesigned. He was previously an Active card with +2 Power for each opposing card in his zone – a reliable but passive end game finisher. Now he reads: On Appear: Changes this zone into Double Goal. This is a dramatic shift. Kane is no longer a defensive anchor; he’s a zone transformer. The power drop to 6 makes sense β his value now comes entirely from that zone effect.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been reworked from an Active ability (scaling power based on active cards in play) to: On Appear: Discards all cards in your hand and gains their Power. This is a high-risk, high-reward gambit. In the right deck β one built to maximise hand size at the moment he’s played β the payoff could be enormous. In the wrong situation, it’s a disaster.
Mohamed Elneny moves away from being a base card entirely. His new ability: When you have 5 Egyptian cards on the board, create a Salah in your hand. This is a clear signal that an Egyptian synergy archetype is being pushed. If Salah is a strong card (and he is), this becomes a worthwhile payoff for running a full Egyptian build.
YΓ‘ser Asprilla has a new ability: Moves at the end of each turn. A mobile 1-Cost FW with constant zone shifting β expect him to become a nuisance card in aggressive low-cost Move decks.
Jarrod Bowen sees his ability shift from On Appear to Active: If played in the right zone, gains +4 Power. This is a meaningful mechanical change β the bonus is now persistent rather than a one-time trigger, making him considerably stronger if you can consistently hit his preferred zone.
Victor LindelΓΆf has a clarified ability: Next turn, all cards in both players’ hands cost 4 (previously cost 3). A significant change that neutralises a popular deck build that utilises Enzo Fernandez‘s ability to get 3 x Big Cards out together on Turn 8.
Meta Takeaways
This patch shakes things up considerably. The Kane rework is the headline β zone transformation is a powerful mechanic and Double Goal is one of the strongest effects in the game. Expect Kane to feature in a lot of experimental builds over the coming days.
The Ronaldo rework is polarising. All-in hand-dump strategies are difficult to pilot but potentially devastating. Watch for dedicated Ronaldo decks emerging as players figure out the optimal setup.
The Egyptian synergy push (Elneny + Salah payoff) gives tribal decks a genuine win condition. Valverde and Son hitting 9 Power makes them among the best stats-per-cost cards in the game at their respective costs. And the five new Zones add meaningful strategic depth to zone variety.
It’s a big patch with plenty to explore. What are your big takeaways? Let us know in the Comments below!
